Their comebacks are usually when other big name groups are out in Korea and their first week sales for their Japanese releases are quite good but they don't chart that high due to the competition. T-ARA and BoA both cracked the top ten with sales of under 10,000 for their latest songs..... I'm happy to see that After School are outselling T-ARA somewhere though xD

Exactly, someone is always coming back. Like OC finally had to find SNSD when their come back was supposed to be earlier. Yes OC also delayed theirs, but not as much as SNSD did. After School will be always against someone who has bigger chances to win, however the last 2 come backs weren't that bad in terms of fighting for the top spot, although they didn't won any mutizen, for a group that comes back once a year, they still do pretty well. The thing is they should release music more often in order to start actually being a #1 act for K-Pop demands.

To be honest, it needs wonders but it's not gonna happen anytime soon. Especially when you have 2 other groups and now 1 another upcoming group in the same company....

Yes it's such a shame that OC and AS always make comebacks when more popular groups are out so they always place 2nd..... I'm not bothered about those music show wins but it must be annoying how they're always so close to winning, then you have nugu groups like Girl's Day and APink surpassing them in wins :-/

Yes they do and it really frustrates me, I am not sure who I should be mad at: Pledis for not realizing the comeback date is in line with other big named groups or the other big named groups for seeming as though they are coming back purposely with AS.

Lets use "Flashback" and f(x)'s "Electric Shock" both songs were great and I am not trying to be biased here but "Flashback" was 1000 times better than that song, yet f(x) won all of the awards for music shows and gained even more attention, this is continuing to happen many times each time AS have a comeback, and they work so hard when they do comeback.

My only gripe is that AS needs to learn to comeback more often, this one time a year is just way too little in an industry where one to two groups debut every month, its just too much and AS needs to learn how to release more singles within a year. At least a mini album and digital single (a la "Diva" or 4minute's "Is It Poppin'?") once a year would put them on the map more and on a higher rank.

They dont ALWAYS need to create some sort of special concept per comeback.

I agree mitsuhoney with AS needing to return more often. However the thing is that OC are supposed to keep AS relevant but it has backfired as OC seem to have their own niche and fanbase that aren't acquainted with AS or just prefer OC's concepts and music.

I also think maybe they should cut back on the Japanese activities as DTK flopped so I think they're kind of over there :/

It's definitely a factor, but it's more bad luck. Sistar coming back at the same time as the group was horrible, as A.S would have succeeded without Sistar being in their way.

Unfortunately, it does seem like there is less and less "opportune moments" for the group to comeback. Pledis just needs to promote them more regularly which will give them a boost.

Agreed. I mean they do very well in Japan, but I have said this to others before, their promo cycle in Japan for this era was terrible. At least their promo cycle for PLAYGIRLZ was somewhat more decent, they went on more interviews and showed up more on television than in random malls across Japan. They should have realized how poor OC was doing sales wise with continuing to promote in malls and not make the same mistake with AS, but it seems like Avex (which is so weird for this company) is making some really bad choices on their promotion.

They have not been as bad as 4minute in Japan (as much as I love 4minute, their career in Japan was SO terrible) but 4minute has really pushed themselves more into their domestic market, especially after their decision to no longer release Japanese singles, lets hope this is a wake up call to Pledis to push After School a little more. I completely agree with the whole OC dilemma. I dont understand why Pledis would debut ANOTHER group on their label that pretty much has the same "cute" concepts (albeit less "funny" and more annoyingly aegyo) as OC (I am referring to Hello Venus) I mean I love HV too but I think that group definitely needs to define themselves and make a name for themselves rather than being almost direct carbon copies of OC.

I also think Pledis takes so incredibly long to bring back their groups... how long has it been since we have seen a HV, AS and NU'EST comeback? Way too long for a group in this kind of market. Like its not as bad as it could be in Brave Sound Entertainment (I really love BIGSTAR and Brave Girls and I feel SO bad for them having to sit around and wait for their incompetent manager to pay any amount of attention to them rather than other groups) but still they really need to up their game. Remember how they said that AS was going to split into subgroups? As in plural? To this day I still imagined how amazing and successful a subgroup featuring Kahi, Jung Ah and Bekah would have been like.

I think they push OC into the spotlight too much, I dont mind OC, but seriously give AS more attention than OC.

Blaming timing is like an elite swimmer saying they could have won if the other competitors weren’t there; it’s a nonsense premise to start from. Either After School is good enough to win or it’s not, it’s that simple, that why it’s a “competition” and not a solo endeavour.

The reason why After School isn’t top tier in my opinion is in its makeup and how it was put together right from the beginning; After School is a “dance group” that can sing while everyone else is a “singing group” that can dance. (More or less)
For After School to compete it needs at least one maybe two really good power vocalists to give the group some punch and let it harmonise better; Hello Venus’s Yoo Ara who was slated to join is a perfect example, anyone who heard her and Raina sing together can easily tell just how sensational that combo was and losing her and Lime to HV was really a blow to AS just when it would have mattered.
Instead we got E-Young an instrumentalist which is an odd fit; as much as I like her you really can’t leverage her special ability into AS, she might as well be able to juggle for all the good it does AS as a group, as a singer she is ok but nowhere near good enough to stand out.

In a dance battle After School rules but if it came to a singing battle that’s another matter; I would pit Raina against the best any other group can offer with confidence but AS’s second best or third best against the equivalents in the other top tier groups and you can easily see where the weakness in AS lies, this is why AS doesn’t win.

It saddens me that Catallena hasn't topped number one as well as much as the sting from not winning number one with Flashback still hurts. We know AS and OC rock, they just need one more tweek or change to put them over the top. Not to take credit away from APink but Mr. Chu is just a catchy pop song with a simple dance routine yet it kills. Maybe don't try so hard and just have fun Pledis...
