[DISCUSSION] Thoughts on Dress To Kill? Empty [DISCUSSION] Thoughts on Dress To Kill?

Post by Redboi675 Thu Mar 20, 2014 4:14 am

Now that the album is out, I was wondering what everyone thought about it and what your favourites were :-)

Dress To Kill
Has a mysterious feel and sets up the overall feel of the album, which is cool and slick-produced. I loved the whispering. This would been a good B-side for a Korean comeback. I think there should have been some breakdown as it seemed to be leading to one or at least a strong bridge section.

Miss Independent
Would have made a good single. I'd have loved if this was a digital single in Korea with a sexy video to accompany it. Loved the harmonies but wish there were more of the non-OC  girls on this.

Triangle
Not really feeling it as I feel the dubstep-influence faded and AS had already experimented with it back in 2011's Hollywood. The song is probably a grower for me but love the intro and it's catchy.

Crazy Driver
Definitely one of my least favourite song After School has done so far. All the autotune ruins it, it does fit in well with the other tracks and the line distribution is fair for an AS song.

Shh
Absolutely loved this from the first listen/watch. The concept, style and sound were AS at its best for me.

Yes No Yes
My favourite track of the album at the moment. I love the 90s R&B/soul vibe to it. One of the best songs they've ever recorded. It's sexy, sultry and confident, which I feel sums After School up. Just wish there was more to the bridge.

Heaven
I love how this release defined the album's style and sound, it's smooth and not overdone.

In The Moonlight
This is like Time's Up in the sense that it has Kaeun all over it but I love how smooth it is. The oh-oh-oh part is catchy.

Rock It
Didn't care for it when I bought the Shh album but I actually grew to love it and surprisingly it fits well with the album, sonically. Kaeun's opening verse and Raina's choruses are the highlights for me.

Spotlight
This one is filler for me but the production is good.

Overall I thought this album was probably one of their strongest and most cohesive releases. The production was strong and I love how they stuck to a theme for the whole album stylistically, lyrically and sonically. The only things that were disappointing was the line distribution, it could have been more fair, and the vocals..... I wanted more JungAh/Raina power notes and there was a lot of whispering instead lol.
I'd rate it a 4/5 flower

I haven't listen at it yet, but your review is interesting it compliments the bits they've been publishing on Facebook about each track.

The thing with Dubstep is that in Japan it was barely introduced on the mainstream Pop when it started spreading. Some acts used it, yes, I recall some EXILE songs using it, but now is when it's somehow trending on more mainstream and even with idols, a few of the last H!P singles from different groups have dubstep mixed with the beats too. I guess that is why they probably still went on with it.

I actually like the chorus of Rock It a lot, is what makes the track grow on me.

Listened to the whole album and totally love "yes no yes". My favourite track from the album well other than Shh.

I am unsure why the DVDs are always region coded. is there a way to get around it?

My review to "Dress to kill"

The intro and outro are terrible, there is no point to even have added them in the first place, they add nothing special to the album or songs. "Dress to kill" and "Ms.Independent" are excellent, I am really upset about their Japanese promos this era, its such a rushed effort they should have done a music video to both of those songs.

"Triangle" is excellent as well, I think it would look great performed. "Crazy Driver" is ok for me but I get bored of it quite easily, "Shh" is excellent, "Yes No Yes" is ok for me, its listenable but I will tend to skip it alot, "Heaven" is excellent, "in the moonlight" has to be the worst song on this whole album, even the way they sing "Dancing in the moonlight" makes my mouth grind, the verses are lazy, the bridge is boring and the chorus is nothing special, this song should have never been put onto this album it is an awful song, its really bad.

"rock it!" is nothing special for me but better after the whole catastrophe with the previous song so it is a step up, still, I am going to skip this song most likely, it drags on way too much and gets boring easily. "Spotlight" is good and I was glad that they at least had one great song after the amazingness of "Dress to kill" through "Heaven." All in all, its a great album, but their first album was better for me, I do like that they went with a more unique sound this time around and it worked for the most part.

Best: Dress to kill, Ms.Independent, Triangle, Shh, Heaven
Good: Crazy Driver, Yes No Yes, Spotlight
Worst: in the moonlight, rock it!

I love this kind of discussion XD
I will talk (I'll try XD) for every song, too.
First of all, I see a lot of positive comment about that album! lot of people says that this is one of they favorite album from AS.
This album is more electronic and I love it XD

-Dress to kill
It's a title very dark, I feel a little anxious when I listen to it, they're voice are amazing and the chours is very catching. This is an amazing track, it's very different and I like it!
-Miss Independent
I don't know XD A part of me, love it... the powerful chorus and the incredibile beat. But it seems a little confusing, but that 'Majesty' part is in my mind XD
-Triangle
It's incredible catching, the chorus is amazing and there's something that I really love in this song (don't ask me what XD I don't understand XD)
-Crazy Driver
it's not 'bad' but it seems like I already listen this kind of song. It hasn't anything 'new' or 'particular', it's something that you can listen, but easy to forget. The choreography (in live) is also simple and forgettable.
-Shh
The concept, the MV, you have to love this song. It's very wonderful and I love their voice here. sexy, catching, elegant and the choreography is amazing. The light in the mv is something that I will ever forget!
-Yes No yes
it's very sexy (that whisper~) and in this song everyone can listen how good they are (in singing). this song is elegant and wonderful, I really love it.
-Heaven
I love the riff and the live is amazing too. This song is powerful and catching. That mini/short 'instrumental part' before chorus make me dance, it's incredible catching. And the chorus is just WOW.
-In the Moonlight
It's different and particolaur. Interesting but I don't really love it. I like how they try to do something different, but it's not my style xD
-Rock it
How their voice follow the music is something that I love with every molecule, atom of my body. This song is powerful and amazing.
-Spotlight
it's a little dark but it's strange, I don't kown if I love it or not, some part is a little strange but I love this 'dark' concept xD

So... I really love this album (this electronic and dark style is one of my favorite XD) Some song is amazing (Dress to Kill, Shh, Yes No yes, Heaven, Rock it), some track is not bad but not so good (Miss independent, Crazy Driver), ither is not my style (In the Moonlight, Spotlight)
I love that all the songs have the some (similar) style and concept and this is a wonderful album!

It's most likely because of no mv. Some reason they never give AS mv's for their full albums. But they do it for OC which makes no sense for me. At least they feature a song on a CM for both albums though. >.<
